Lulo, a man who found himself living on the streets in Severo, Brazil, faced immense challenges in his daily life. Struggling to meet his basic needs, he relied on the generosity of others to support himself. However, in the midst of these difficult times, he found solace in an extraordinary friendship.
Bingo, a homeless puppy, entered Lulo's life and their bond quickly grew into a deep bond. They have become inseparable companions, providing each other much-needed companionship and support. But with the arrival of the bitter cold of winter, their difficulties multiplied.
"The puppies are always there. They don't care about the wealth or poverty of their owners. This is true love," expressed one deeply moved person.
Despite his limited resources, Lulo scraped together enough money to take Bingo to the vet, prioritizing the health and well-being of his beloved companion. As the freezing temperatures arrived, he also wanted to buy a blanket to keep them warm. However, circumstances dictated that the puppy's health was of the utmost importance.
Within their community, Lulo and Bingo were known and recognized, and a kind-hearted soul provided them with a blanket to help them endure the harsh climate. Unfortunately, their respite was short-lived, as someone heartless stole their only source of heat, leaving them exposed to the freezing temperatures once again.
"Every city should have a shelter. Whatever the situation, everyone deserves a roof over their heads for the night," another concerned person pointed out.
Left with no options, the best friends clung tightly to each other, seeking warmth and comfort. Before they had two blankets to protect them from the cold, but now they only had each other. Tragically, on the coldest night in their town, Lulo and Bingo succumbed to the extreme temperatures. They were found huddled together, their embrace the final testament to their unwavering love and support.
"This is the breaking point. They are living beings just like us, and no one should have to endure such cold and sleep on the sidewalks. Let's make our voices heard!" expressed another individual, overcome with helplessness.
They tried to protect themselves with cardboard, but their efforts were in vain. The merciless cold proved too much for them and they were found frozen. The image was a dark reminder that perhaps this tragedy could have been avoided.
"How sad. We should have a little more love for our neighbors so that this would stop happening." Living on the streets is an arduous existence, and Lulo and Bingo spent their final days providing love and support to each other. However, the help they desperately needed never materialized. They left this world arm in arm, finding comfort in the fact that as long as they were together, they would be safe. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough.
“The least our leaders can do is create dignified shelters.” In the midst of these heartbreaking reflections, they were buried together and their remains found peace in the municipal cemetery. Now, united, they will find comfort on the other side of the rainbow, free from hunger, cold, indifference and rejection.
